.The aim of this course is to question the role of theatre in the twenty-first century

Which theatre innovations have occurred in recent years? How have theatre makers understood the art

of the stage to challenge previous assumptions? How can the art of theatre respond to social and cultural

?developments? And how have theatre makers reinvented this medium

.The course begins with a look at theatre directors and companies who have reinterpreted the classics

for the contemporary stage From there, and how ׳we will be looking at what constitutes a reinvention

of ‘drama recent trends in immersive theatre have taken a global turn towards a more interactive approach to the stage.

Finally, we will question how theatre travels internationally through theatre festivals

and what role established theatre institutions play in that context.

The course will include a historical dimension that questions the location and significance of physical theatre

spaces in the modern city space. It will further investigate how such notions
